1. Seat all casters in the five-star base

Expected result: all five casters sit at the same depth, swivel freely, and remain in the sockets during a light pull check. A click may occur on some grip-ring designs, but sound alone is not the test.

If it does not seat: compare the stubborn caster with one that fits, check the socket for packaging material, and confirm that all stems are the same specified type. Stop if the stem is bent, the socket is damaged, or the fit requires an unapproved striking tool.

2. Place the gas lift and any cylinder cover

Set the base on its casters so it is stable. Remove only the packaging identified by the manual. Insert the specified end of the gas lift into the base's center opening, then place the telescoping cover over it if one is supplied and the manual shows it at this stage.

Expected result: the lift stands centered without being held, and any cover moves freely around it. Many chair lifts are secured by the later pressure fit between the base, cylinder, and seat mechanism rather than by a separate bolt.

Stop condition: do not proceed if the lift leans because the center socket is damaged, if the cylinder has a dent or leak, or if you cannot identify the correct orientation. The gas lift is sealed and pressurized; never open or modify it.

3. Check the seat underside before adding parts

Place the seat upside down on its protective packaging or a padded surface that will not press on the controls. Find the front arrow, FRONT label, control side, or bolt pattern shown in the manual. If the under-seat mechanism is separate, orient it exactly as illustrated before starting any fastener.

Start every specified screw by hand for several turns. Leave them slightly loose until all holes are engaged, then tighten gradually in an alternating pattern. If the seat mechanism arrived installed, inspect it but do not remove it merely to imitate another chair's instructions.

4. Attach armrests only in their labeled positions

Backrests vary more than bases. Some slide into a receiver; others bolt to one central bracket, two side brackets, or a frame. Support the backrest at the height and angle shown in the manual. A second person is the safer choice when the backrest or seat is heavy, when the part will not remain stable, or when holding it blocks your view of the threads.

Start every backrest bolt by hand. For a multi-bolt connection, engage all bolts before final tightening and follow the specified cross or side-to-center order. Expected result: the bracket and mounting surface meet evenly, the backrest is centered, and no bolt head is being used to pull a large gap closed. If a gap remains, remove the unsupported load, recheck orientation and hardware, and contact support rather than forcing the joint.

6. Lower the completed seat assembly onto the gas lift

Return the rolling base to a clear area. With the upper chair upright, align the seat mechanism's center socket directly above the gas lift and lower it vertically. Keep fingers away from the narrowing gap between the seat assembly and cylinder.

Expected result: the upper chair sits level and rotates around the centered lift without scraping the base. Do not use the chair's controls yet if the manual requires additional fasteners, covers, cable connections, or a separate locking step.

Safe fallback: if the seat assembly is too heavy to control or you cannot see the socket, ask another adult to stabilize or guide it. Do not balance the seat at an angle and drop it onto the cylinder.

7. Install the headrest, covers, and model-specific accessories
